It's Fig Season

Sometimes it is the simplest recipe that really shine.  This is so true of our fig appetizer that we created while in Napa Valley.  Our farmers market figs were topped with melted bleu cheese for a wonderful sweet and savory combination.

The fig halves were sprinkled with lemon zest and anise seeds then placed in a 125 degree F oven for about 8 hours. We baked the figs on a low temperature all day.  This simple step increased the sweetness of the figs, and yielded a soft leathery texture.

Just before serving, we topped the figs with bleu cheese, and baked them at 350 degrees for a few minutes to melt the cheese.

After a quick drizzle of balsamic glaze, our figs were ready to be served.
